The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) has provided $813,300 to Phase Two of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) project, “Tajikistan Drug Control Agency (DCA): Establishing a Training Academy.”
The United States is a close partner of UNODC and contributes resources to combat the most pressing issues under the organization’s mandate. The UNODC office in Dushanbe has a long and trusted relationship with the Drug Control Agency (DCA) of Tajikistan and as such is well suited to help the DCA improve its training capacity and more effectively investigate narcotics cases.
This financial contribution will help the government of Tajikistan develop a comprehensive training plan to build capacities of law enforcement bodies to investigate and prosecute organized criminal groups engaged in narcotics trafficking, and raise the level of supervisory capabilities and management skills at the DCA. Phase Two of the project will further develop the basic training course established in phase one while adding intermediate and advanced curriculums. UNODC will also establish a self-paced e-learning curriculum, drawing on their existing database of law enforcement courses. The coursework will focus on international best practices, Tajik criminal law, agency policies and resources, and investigative techniques. It will also develop a career path for DCA’s criminal investigators and the capacity of the DCA’s academic training unit.
INL funded this project through appropriations made by Congress to the U.S. Department of State that support efforts in the fight against organized crime and drug trafficking in Tajikistan and worldwide.
