On behalf of the U.S. Embassy in Tajikistan, I congratulate all Tajik citizens as you celebrate 29 years of independence!
Over these nearly three decades, the partnership between our governments and peoples has grown stronger. We are proud of our accomplishments in the fields of development, security, education, agriculture, and health, and our robust dialogue on key international issues as well as on the rule of law and respect for human rights. The United States will continue to base its relations with Tajikistan on strong U.S. support for Tajikistan’s independence and sovereignty.
This year has been especially challenging for all of us as we face COVID-19 and its threat to our collective health and our economic well-being. To combat this pandemic, the United States has provided over $5 million in assistance to Tajikistan, building on the more than $125 million we have provided to support Tajikistan’s health sector since independence. Tajikistan and the United States are united in this fight, and we will overcome this scourge together.
Despite the challenges, our work continues. We have turned to technology to converse with our Government of Tajikistan partners on key international issues; our American Spaces are open and operating virtually, and we have started processing student visas for returning students. I am confident that better times await us. I wish health and prosperity to you and your families and a bright future for Tajikistan! Happy Independence Day!
