Message to U.S. Citizens: Update on Somon Air Flight to Frankfurt

Message to U.S. Citizens: Update on Somon Air Flight to Frankfurt (April 10, 2020)

Location: Tajikistan

Event: Somon Air is in the process of organizing a ticketed flight from Dushanbe to Frankfurt, with possible planned departure from April 17-22.  The U.S. Government is planning a separate repatriation flight currently scheduled to depart Dushanbe on April 19.

The Dushanbe International Airport remains closed.  International travel at this time is challenging.  Connecting flights may be unreliable and cancelled at the last minute.  For the upcoming flight to Frankfurt, it is important to note that the German government is not allowing foreign citizens to enter Germany.  All travelers are required to remain in transit, which means that cancelled international connections may leave passengers stranded at the airport.

The German government has implemented enhanced screening and quarantine measures. Travelers may be subject to quarantine and should be prepared for additional travel restrictions to be put into effect with little or no advance notice.

On March 19, the Department of State issued a global Level 4 – Do Not Travel advisory, advising U.S. citizens to avoid all international travel.  In countries where commercial departure options remain available, U.S. citizens who live in the United States should arrange for immediate return to the United States, unless they are prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period.  U.S. citizens who live abroad should avoid all international travel.

Waiting List for Somon Air Flight: If you would like to be added to a wait list for a Somon Air outbound flight to Frankfurt, please contact the following Somon Air representative to provide the names of the travelers, contact email address, and phone number.  The cost of the flight has not yet been determined.  Somon Air does not have a baggage transfer agreement to transfer bags for onward flights.  Passengers who chose to travel with Somon Air will need to consider traveling with only hand luggage instead of checked bags.  Travel with pets may be possible; confirm this with Somon Air and the airline company of the connecting flight.

Travelers will be required to purchase a connecting flight from Frankfurt to the United States before boarding the plane in Dushanbe.  Please be aware that the travel situation is constantly evolving.  Flights that are available as of today may have limited seat availability or may be cancelled with little advance notice.

Please note: Although there is a planned Somon Air flight, the U.S. Embassy does not know when this flight will receive the necessary clearances.  U.S. citizens wishing to depart Tajikistan for the United States should consider taking the next available flight.  If interested in more information about the U.S. Government chartered flight, please refer available details for the flight and register your request for repatriation services.
