Message to U.S. Citizens: Extending Visa Validity for Tajik Visas

Location: Tajikistan

Event: The Dushanbe International Airport remains closed.  U.S. citizens currently in the country should prepare to shelter in place and make arrangements to extend their Tajik visas.

Extending Visas: For U.S. citizens who traveled to Tajikistan on a tourist visa, please appear in person at the Main Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at 34 Pushkin Street, Dushanbe to apply for a 30-day extension to your visa.  The application fee is $50 USD.

For U.S. citizens in Tajikistan on other visa categories, the process for renewing visas remains the same.

Registering in Country: U.S. citizens who are granted an extension to their tourist visas will also need to register with the Passport Registration Service of Ministry of Internal Affairs (called OVIR for short), which is located at 5 Mirzo Tursunzoda Street in Dushanbe.  For questions about the registration process, contact OVIR at 227-7971 or 227-8689.

Actions to Take:

  • Contact the Main Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to extend your visa.
  • Register with OVIR if you have extended your tourist visa.  Other visa categories should have already registered with OVIR.
  • Prepare to shelter-in-place for an extended period of time if remaining in Tajikistan.
