Expanded Visa Service in Tajikistan Reaches a Milestone

Dushanbe, Tajikistan, May 26, 2023 — The United States Embassy in Dushanbe is pleased to announce that, after fewer than nine months of processing U.S. immigrant visas, it has passed an important milestone:  1,000 immigrant visas issued in Tajikistan.

The U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe started processing U.S. immigrant visas on October 4, 2022.  Before then, U.S. immigrant visas for citizens and residents of Tajikistan were processed at the U.S. Consulate General in Almaty, Kazakhstan.  Embassy Dushanbe has welcomed the opportunity to open the door to a new life in the United States for family members of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents, Diversity Visa Program (DV) selectees, and others.

The United States and Tajikistan have enjoyed 31 years of diplomatic relations.  As the bilateral relationship has evolved, U.S. consular services have expanded.  The introduction of immigrant visa services in Tajikistan is a significant step forward that will continue to strengthen our bilateral relationship and people to people ties.

U.S. Ambassador to Tajikistan Manuel P. Micaller, Jr. personally congratulated the 1,000th recipient, noting that, “When I first served in Tajikistan 2010-2013, we could not provide the full range of consular services.  With this change in visa processing, we have made the path to obtaining an immigrant visa easier for Tajik citizens who qualify.  This positive development is another historic milestone in over 30 years of friendly relations between our two countries.”

The U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe began offering nonimmigrant visa services in 2006 and has processed tens of thousands of applications.  With the additional service of immigrant visa processing, the U.S. Embassy now provides the full suite of consular services.
